The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a court reader attached to the Tis Hazari Courts for allegedly demanding a ₹30,000 bribe to facilitate bail.

According to a CBI press release dated April 23, 2026, the agency registered a case on the basis of a complaint filed by a woman.

The complaint alleged that the accused worked as Reader to the court of an Additional Sessions Judge, ASJ-02. He allegedly demanded illegal gratification from the complainant to help secure bail for her client.

The CBI said the accused sought the bribe for facilitating the allowance of a bail application.

After receiving the complaint, the agency laid a trap on April 23, 2026. During the operation, CBI officials caught the accused red-handed while he allegedly demanded and accepted ₹20,000.

The amount was allegedly taken as part payment of the total bribe demand of ₹30,000.

CBI officials immediately took the accused into custody after the trap operation.

The case concerns allegations of corruption against a court official. The agency said the accused allegedly misused his official position and attempted to interfere with the processing of a bail application.

The CBI also stated that such conduct undermines the integrity of the judicial process.

The agency has started further investigation to examine the full scope of the offence. It will also verify whether any other person had any role in the alleged corruption.

The CBI reiterated that it would take strict action against corruption. It also urged citizens to report bribery or misconduct by public officials.
