Appointment follows Supreme Court collegium recommendation; Preetha to serve as Additional Judge for two-year term
The Central Government has notified the appointment of Advocate A.K. Preetha as an Additional Judge of the Kerala High Court.
The appointment follows the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium. The Collegium approved her elevation in its meeting held on April 14, 2026.
Advocate A.K. Preetha will serve as an Additional Judge of the Kerala High Court for two years from the date she assumes office.
The recommendation formed part of a broader exercise to fill vacancies in High Courts and strengthen the judiciary.
Preetha has practised before the Kerala High Court for several years. She has also appeared in matters before labour courts and industrial tribunals.
She enrolled as an advocate in 1997. Since then, she has built a long-standing practice across different areas of law.
Under the constitutional scheme, the government appoints judges to High Courts after the Collegium recommends their names. Additional Judges may later receive confirmation as permanent judges, based on performance and other relevant criteria.
With Preetha’s appointment, the Kerala High Court’s judicial strength is expected to increase. The move may also support efforts to reduce pendency and improve court functioning.
