Madhya Pradesh High Court defers hearing in Bhojshala–Kamal Maula dispute to April 6; directs continuation of proceedings on ASI report objections

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has adjourned the ongoing hearing in the Bhojshala–Kamal Maula Mosque dispute and listed the matter for further consideration on April 6, 2026, as it continues to examine objections and submissions relating to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) report on the disputed site.

The dispute concerns the Bhojshala complex in Dhar district, a protected monument claimed by Hindus as a temple dedicated to Goddess Saraswati and by Muslims as the Kamal Maula Mosque. (nyayasphere.com)

The High Court had earlier directed the ASI to conduct a scientific survey of the premises to determine its historical and structural

A Division Bench of Justice Vijay Kumar Shukla and Justice Alok Awasthi is hearing the dispute concerning the ASI survey report. The survey, conducted over several weeks, forms the basis of the present proceedings.

The Court is examining objections and suggestions filed by the parties on the ASI report. It has also indicated that it may inspect the site and review the material placed on record to better understand the dispute.

The case centers on competing claims about the nature and historical identity of the structure.

Hindu parties rely on the ASI findings, which they say indicate the presence of temple remains. Muslim parties, however, dispute those conclusions and maintain that the site is a mosque.

The ASI survey report has become central to the case. Its findings on architectural features, structural elements, and the historical use of the site have led to detailed submissions from both sides.

The High Court has now listed the matter for April 6, 2026, when it will continue hearing arguments on objections to the ASI report and related issues.
