Court Allows CBI Custodial Interrogation Till June 2; Investigation Intensifies Into Alleged Dowry Death Of Newlywed Woman.
A Special CBI Court in Bhopal on Friday sent Samarth Singh, the husband of deceased Twisha Sharma, and his mother Giribala Singh, a retired district judge, to five days of CBI custody. The agency will keep both accused in custody until June 2, 2026, while it continues its investigation into Twisha Sharma’s death.
CBI Secures Custody Of Accused
The Special CBI Court passed the order after the Central Bureau of Investigation sought custodial interrogation of the accused.
The CBI recently took over the investigation following judicial directions. The move came amid growing public concern over the case.
Twisha Sharma died at her matrimonial home in Bhopal on May 12, 2026. Authorities initially reported the death as a suicide. However, her family later alleged dowry harassment and raised questions about the circumstances surrounding her death.
Arrest Came After High Court Cancelled Anticipatory Bail
The custody order came shortly after the arrest of Giribala Singh. The Madhya Pradesh High Court had earlier cancelled the anticipatory bail granted to her.
The High Court noted allegations that she did not cooperate with the investigation. It also referred to ante-mortem injuries found on the deceased and other material collected during the probe.
Samarth Singh had previously surrendered before authorities after withdrawing his anticipatory bail plea. A Bhopal court later sent him to police custody as part of the investigation.
Allegations Under Investigation
Investigators are examining allegations of dowry harassment and suspicious circumstances linked to Twisha Sharma’s death.
The agency is also reviewing claims made by her family about events that occurred before the incident. Investigators are analysing electronic evidence, witness statements, medical records, and post-mortem findings.
Case Draws National Attention
The case has received nationwide attention because it involves a former judicial officer. The serious allegations raised by the deceased’s family have also increased public interest in the matter.
Investigation Continues
The CBI plans to use the custody period to question the accused and verify the evidence collected during the earlier investigation.
The court is likely to take up the matter again after the remand period ends on June 2, 2026.
