TD Raje Gowda Moves Supreme Court Against Recount Order
Congress leader TD Raje Gowda has approached the Supreme Court against a Karnataka High Court order that directed a recount of postal votes in the Sringeri constituency.
Gowda had won the Sringeri seat in the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections. However, the recount changed the result. BJP candidate DN Jeevaraja then won the seat by 52 votes.
Urgent Listing Sought Before CJI Surya Kant
Senior Advocate Devadatt Kamat mentioned the matter before Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and sought an urgent hearing.
Kamat told the court that the High Court order had led to Gowda losing his seat. After hearing the request, CJI Surya Kant agreed to list the matter on Monday, May 11.
Appeal Filed Through Advocate-on-Record Tushar Giri
Advocate-on-Record Tushar Giri filed the appeal before the Supreme Court on Gowda’s behalf.
The case relates to the Karnataka High Court’s order for a recount of postal votes in the Sringeri constituency. The recount changed the result of the 2023 Assembly election in favour of DN Jeevaraja.
