Date:

The Simi Bell Rose police protection plea came up before the Kerala High Court, which granted the State two weeks to file its response. The plea alleges threats from Opposition Leader V.D. Satheesan and his brother V.D. Ajayakumar. Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas posted the matter to July 16 and directed the State, the Station House Officer of Thevara Police Station, and the Commissioner of Kochi City to file their respective statements.

Plea for Protection of Life and Property

Simi Bell Rose John has sought directions to the State and the SHO of Thevara Police Station to ensure that V.D. Satheesan, V.D. Ajayakumar, or their associates do not obstruct or threaten her life and property.

She filed the petition as WP(C) 15288 of 2026, titled Simi Bell Rose John v. State of Kerala and Ors.

Allegations in the Petition

According to the petition, Satheesan allegedly offered money to the petitioner after his first election to the Legislative Assembly.

The petitioner claims she refused the money because she believed it was obtained through corruption.

Representation Before the Police

The petitioner further alleges that unidentified persons attacked her son and a colleague in separate incidents.

Fearing for her safety and that of her family, she submitted a representation to the Kochi City Police Commissioner seeking police protection.

According to the petition, the authorities did not take effective action on her representation. She then approached the Kerala High Court.

Court’s Earlier Observation

During the previous hearing, the Court orally questioned the State about the delay in recording the petitioner’s statement.

Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas noted that the police had received a specific direction mentioning the date and time for recording her statement.

Next Hearing

The Court granted the State and the police authorities two weeks to file their statements.

The matter will next be heard on July 16.
