About NITI Aayog

NITI Aayog serves as the apex public policy think tank of the Government of India. It also functions as the nodal agency for promoting economic development and cooperative federalism by involving State Governments in the economic policy-making process through a bottom-up approach.

About the Internship

NITI Aayog, the National Institution for Transforming India, Government of India, introduced its Internship Scheme in 2015.

The scheme aims to engage students pursuing undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate degrees, and research scholars enrolled in recognised universities or institutions in India or abroad.

The duration of the internship shall be at least 6 weeks and may extend up to a maximum of 6 months.

Eligibility Criteria

Bonafide students of any recognised university or institution in India or abroad may apply, subject to the following conditions:

Undergraduate students must have completed or appeared in the term-end examinations of the 2nd year/4th semester of their bachelor’s degree course. They must have secured not less than 85% or equivalent marks in Class 12.

Graduate students must have completed or appeared in the term-end examinations of the first year/2nd semester of their postgraduate programme, or must be pursuing research/Ph.D. They must have secured not less than 70% or equivalent marks in graduation.

Students who have appeared in the final examination or have recently completed graduation/postgraduation and are awaiting admission to higher studies may also be considered, provided they have secured 70% or more cumulative marks in all years/semesters of graduation/postgraduation up to the date of application.

The gap between the month of declaration of the final examination result and the desired month of internship must not exceed 6 months. For example, if the result is declared in June, the candidate may apply for an internship beginning up to December.

Duration

Minimum: 6 weeks
Maximum: 6 months

Application Procedure

Interested applicants must apply online through the official website of NITI Aayog on or before May 10, 2026.

Applications may be submitted up to six months in advance, but not later than two months before the month in which the internship is desired.

Applicants must clearly mention their area of interest while submitting the application.

A candidate can apply for the internship only once in a financial year.

Selected applicants will be required to produce original mark sheets and a No Objection Certificate from their college/institution at the time of joining. Failure to do so will result in cancellation of candidature. The NOC format is provided in Annexure ‘C’ of the official notification.
