MNIT Jaipur Secures Prestigious Indian Patent for Advanced Bamboo Testing Innovation
Jaipur:
In a significant boost to India’s sustainable engineering and materials research ecosystem, Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur, has been granted an Indian patent for a cutting-edge invention titled “Novel Support and Loading System for Bending Test of Bamboo: Enhancing Stability and Adjustability.”
MNIT Jaipur, a premier technical institution and an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, is the patent owner. Further details about the institute, its academic excellence, and research ecosystem are available on its official website: https://www.mnit.ac.in.
Patent Details and Legal Recognition
The invention has been granted Patent No. 552332 under the provisions of the Patents Act, 1970, with a statutory validity of 20 years starting from 9 July 2023. The patent was officially granted on 14 October 2024 by the Indian Patent Office, Government of India.
This formal recognition places MNIT Jaipur among leading Indian institutions contributing original, application-oriented innovations with long-term industrial and societal relevance.
Inventors and Research Contribution
The patented technology is the result of dedicated research and innovation by a team of MNIT Jaipur researchers:
Mr. Amit Sain
Dr. Arun Gaur
Mr. Jagdish Lohar
Mr. Prakash Somani
The team focused on addressing long-standing technical challenges in accurately testing bamboo, a natural material increasingly used in green construction, structural engineering, and sustainable infrastructure.
About the Innovation
The patented support and loading system introduces a novel mechanism that significantly improves:
Stability during bending tests
Adjustability for different bamboo sizes and configurations
Accuracy and repeatability of test results
Traditional bamboo testing systems often suffer from inconsistencies due to material variability and inadequate support mechanisms. This innovation overcomes those limitations, enabling more reliable evaluation of bamboo’s mechanical properties — a crucial step toward standardisation and wider adoption in modern construction and engineering practices.
Relevance to Sustainability and Green Engineering
Bamboo is widely recognised as a renewable, low-carbon, and eco-friendly material, but its large-scale adoption depends on rigorous scientific testing and certification. This patented system strengthens India’s capability to:
Develop standardised bamboo testing protocols
Support research, certification, and industrial use
Promote sustainable and climate-resilient construction materials
The invention aligns strongly with national priorities such as sustainable development, green infrastructure, and innovation-driven growth.
Role of Patent Facilitation
The patent application was filed and successfully prosecuted by Adv. Pankaj Kumar, Patent Agent (IPConstellation), whose professional handling ensured effective protection of the intellectual property and its smooth progression through the Indian patent system.
This highlights the importance of expert IP facilitation in translating academic research into legally protected and commercially valuable assets.
Institutional Impact
This patent further reinforces MNIT Jaipur’s reputation as a hub for research excellence, innovation, and technology development. The institute continues to encourage interdisciplinary research that bridges academia, industry, and national development goals.
With a strong focus on intellectual property creation, MNIT Jaipur is steadily contributing to India’s growing portfolio of indigenous technologies and reinforcing the country’s position in global innovation indices.
