Supreme Court Appoints Former Madras HC Chief Justice to Oversee Jaipur Udyog Workers’ Dues

The Supreme Court has appointed a former Chief Justice of the Madras High Court as Administrator to supervise the clearance of long-pending dues payable to workers of Jaipur Udyog Ltd. The Court issued directions to ensure an effective and closely monitored disbursement process.

The matter arose from proceedings on the non-payment of dues to Jaipur Udyog Ltd. workers. The Court had already been monitoring steps to resolve the outstanding liabilities. In this round, it focused on creating a proper system for disbursing funds to workers who have waited a long time for payment.

During the hearing, the parties highlighted the difficulties in ensuring timely and transparent disbursement. They also stressed the need for an independent authority to supervise and streamline the exercise.

The Supreme Court noted that the long delay in payment required the appointment of a neutral and experienced authority. It said effective supervision was necessary to protect the workers’ interests. It also said supervision would help ensure that the disbursement takes place in an orderly and accountable manner.

The Court found it appropriate to entrust this responsibility to a former Chief Justice. According to the Court, such an appointment would bring credibility and efficiency to the process.

Keeping in view the circumstances and the need to implement its earlier directions properly, the Court concluded that appointing an Administrator would help secure an expeditious resolution of the issue concerning workers’ dues.

The Supreme Court accordingly appointed a former Chief Justice of the Madras High Court as Administrator. It vested the Administrator with authority to oversee and manage the process of clearing the dues of Jaipur Udyog Ltd. workers. The Court also directed all stakeholders to cooperate so that the disbursement process can proceed smoothly under the Administrator’s supervision.
