Chhattisgarh Suspends DSP Kalpana Verma Over Alleged Misuse of Position

Date:

The Chhattisgarh Government has suspended Deputy Superintendent of Police Kalpana Verma, who was posted in Dantewada district, following allegations of financial misconduct raised by a businessman.

Complaint Filed Before DGP

On December 16, businessman Deepak Tondon submitted a written complaint to Chhattisgarh Director General of Police Arun Dev Gautam.

Tondon alleged that DSP Verma misused her official position and caused him financial losses amounting to ₹2 crore. He stated in his complaint that he had known Verma, along with her father and brother, for nearly five years.

According to him, the officer used her influence in a manner that resulted in substantial financial damage.

Departmental Inquiry Initiated

A senior police officer confirmed that authorities initiated a departmental inquiry after receiving the complaint.

The officer stated that the findings revealed conduct that did not align with the standards expected of a civil servant. The inquiry examined WhatsApp chats and noted that certain sensitive information had been shared improperly.

Officials concluded that the material on record warranted disciplinary action.

Findings in Preliminary Investigation

The suspension order refers to the preliminary investigation report. It records allegations of financial transactions, contradictions between statements made during the inquiry, and discrepancies in WhatsApp communications.

The report also mentions alleged illegal financial gains during official duty, misuse of position, and acquisition of disproportionate assets.

Violation of Service Rules

The order states that these actions violate Rule 3 of the Chhattisgarh Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1965.

Invoking Rule 9 of the Chhattisgarh Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1966, the State Government ordered the immediate suspension of Ms Kalpana Verma from her post as Deputy Superintendent of Police, District Dantewada.

Suspension Terms

During the suspension period, Verma’s headquarters will remain at the Police Headquarters in Nava Raipur, Atal Nagar.

The order further clarifies that she will receive subsistence allowance in accordance with the applicable service rules.
