Lakshmi Menon Moves Kerala High Court to Quash Criminal Proceedings

Malayalam actress Lakshmi Menon has approached the Kerala High Court seeking to quash the criminal case registered against her in connection with an alleged abduction and assault incident.

The petition was heard by Justice C.S. Dias on October 23, who directed the Public Prosecutor to obtain further instructions and posted the matter for further consideration on November 7, 2025 (Friday).

Court Notes Presence of Multiple Injured Parties

During the hearing, the Public Prosecutor submitted that the First Information Report (FIR) in the case revealed that there were other injured persons besides the de facto complainant.

Recording the submission, the Court observed:

“Learned public prosecutor, on instructions, submits that a reading of Annexure A1 FIR shows that there are other injured in the case.”

The Bench accordingly granted the prosecution time to gather details before the next hearing.

Anticipatory Bail Granted Earlier After Settlement Between Parties

Earlier, the Kerala High Court had granted anticipatory bail to Lakshmi Menon and other accused persons in the case. The order was passed after the Court noted that the matter had been amicably settled between the parties and that the complaint had stemmed from a misunderstanding.

The de facto complainant himself had informed the Court that he did not wish to pursue the case further.

Background: Alleged Abduction Following Kochi Pub Altercation

According to the FIR, the alleged incident occurred following an altercation at Velocity Pub, Kochi, involving the complainant, the actress, and other accused persons.

The complainant claimed that he and a friend were followed by the accused in their car, verbally abused, and forced into another vehicle, where he was allegedly assaulted and threatened with death.

The Ernakulam Town North Police subsequently registered an FIR the following day, booking the accused under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (BNS).

Charges Invoked Under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023

The FIR includes offences under:

  • Section 140(2) – Kidnapping or abducting in order to murder
  • Section 126 – Wrongful restraint
  • Section 296 – Obscene acts and songs
  • Section 127(2) – Wrongful confinement
  • Section 115(2) – Voluntarily causing hurt
