The 1st National Policy Brief Competition on Intellectual P

Property & Innovation 2025 by SpicyIP in collaboration with Cell for IPR Promotion and Management (CIPAM), under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has been announced.

The competition is targeted at law‐students, and invites policy‐oriented written submissions exploring the relationship between IP, innovation and society. 

Themes & Structure:

Themes:

  1. Trade Secrets & Confidential Information in the Pharmaceutical Sector.
  1. Standard-Essential Patents (SEPs) and Technological Innovation. 

Structure:

  1. Teams of 3 participants (all from the same institution) from either the 5-yr undergrad law programme or the 3-yr LL.B. programme in India. 
  1. First, written submissions. Top 14 teams (shortlisted) move to an online “pre-final” round (oral presentation). Then top 8 teams will go to the finale held in-person in Vanija Bhawan, New Delhi. 

 Prizes & Benefits:

 Total prize pool: ₹2,00,000

  • Winner: ₹1,00,000
  • 1st Runner-Up: ₹60,000 
  • 2nd Runner-Up: ₹40,000

  • Problem Statements released: 3 Nov 2025 
  • Written submission deadline: 14 Dec 2025 
  • Pre‐final (online): Tentative 10 Feb 2026 
  • Final (in-person – New Delhi): Tentative 27 Feb 2026
