NHRC Online Internship Opens For May 2026

The National Human Rights Commission of India has invited applications for its Online Short-Term Internship Programme for May 2026.

The internship will run for two weeks, from May 18 to May 29, 2026. Students and research scholars from across India may apply.

The programme will take place online. Therefore, applicants must remain fully available during the internship period.

About National Human Rights Commission

The National Human Rights Commission is a statutory public body. It was established on October 12, 1993, under the Protection of Human Rights Ordinance, 1993.

Later, the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993 gave it statutory recognition.

NHRC works to protect and promote human rights in India. Under the Act, human rights include rights relating to life, liberty, equality and dignity.

These rights may arise from the Constitution or from international covenants that courts in India can enforce.

Duration And Timings

The internship will continue for two weeks.

It will begin on May 18, 2026, and end on May 29, 2026.

NHRC will conduct the programme from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday to Friday.

Since the sessions require regular attendance, applicants should check their availability before applying.

Mode Of Internship

The internship will take place in online mode.

Therefore, students can participate from any location in India.

Who Can Apply?

The internship is open to the following applicants:

Students in the 3rd year or above of an integrated five-year postgraduate course may apply.

Students in the 3rd year or final year of a graduation course may also apply.

In addition, students pursuing any semester or year of a postgraduate degree course can apply.

Students pursuing any semester or year of a postgraduate diploma course are also eligible.

Research scholars from any stream may apply as well.

Academic Eligibility

Applicants must have secured at least 60% marks in Class XII.

They must also have secured at least 60% marks in the first four semesters of their graduation course or five-year integrated course.

If the institution follows CGPA or SGPA, the applicant must clearly mention the percentage and the conversion formula.

Otherwise, NHRC may reject the application.

Age Limit

The applicant must not be more than 28 years old as on April 1, 2026.

Stipend And Certificate

NHRC will give a stipend of ₹2,000 to student interns who successfully complete the internship.

The Commission will also issue a certificate of participation.

However, interns must maintain attendance, punctuality, discipline and active participation in online sessions.

They must also submit the required project presentation, project report and book review within the prescribed time.

Last Date To Apply

The last date to submit the application is May 7, 2026.

Applicants must submit the application by 6:00 PM.

Documents Required

Applicants must upload a 250-word Statement of Purpose on the topic:

“Statement of Purpose (SoP) for joining NHRC Online Short Term Internship.”

They must also upload self-attested scanned copies of marksheets from Class XII onwards.

This includes marksheets of each year or semester of the course currently being pursued.

Further, applicants must submit a scanned recommendation letter or recommendation email from the concerned HOD, Dean or Principal.

The recommendation must follow the prescribed proforma.

NHRC may summarily reject applications that do not include the required documents.
