CNLU LLM Student Dies by Suicide Amid Ongoing Mid-Semester Exams

An LLM student of Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), Patna, died by suicide on the afternoon of 24 February 2026 at the Rajendra Prasad Boys Hostel, authorities confirmed.

The incident occurred during the ongoing mid-semester examinations of the five-year LL.B. programme. Preliminary information suggests that the student took the step due to personal reasons.

Police officials reached the spot soon after the incident. Forensic teams examined the scene. Authorities have begun an investigation and are awaiting further details.

Following the incident, CNLU Vice Chancellor Faizan Mustafa convened a condolence meeting in the university’s conference hall. Students and faculty members attended the meeting. The Vice Chancellor expressed grief over the loss and interacted with the student’s peers. He also spoke about the mental health challenges students face and stressed the need for open dialogue and stronger support systems in academic institutions.

In response to the incident, the university revised the examination schedule. It postponed the fourth-year mid-semester examination scheduled for 25 February to 27 February. It rescheduled the fifth-year examination from 25 February to 28 February. The university also deferred the first-, second-, and third-year examinations scheduled for 25 February to 9 March.
