Playing Loud Music on Flights Without Earphones Punishable Under Existing Aviation Rules, Centre Informs Parliament: The Union Government has informed Parliament that passengers who play music aloud inside an aircraft without using earphones may face penal consequences if such conduct falls within the scope of “unruly behaviour” under prevailing aviation regulations.
Responding to a query on Thursday, the Centre clarified that existing civil aviation rules already provide mechanisms to address disruptive conduct onboard aircraft. It stated that playing music loudly through mobile phones or other electronic devices, without earphones, could attract action if it amounts to behaviour that disturbs order or violates prescribed norms applicable to passengers during flight.
The government further indicated that there is presently no proposal to introduce separate or additional penal provisions specifically targeting such acts. Instead, enforcement authorities may invoke the existing regulatory framework governing passenger conduct and in-flight discipline.
Under the current aviation regime, unruly behaviour by passengers is subject to action in accordance with applicable rules framed to ensure safety, discipline, and comfort during air travel.
